Pot Shot guide: how to play, rules and tips

Pot Shot is a free garden artillery game you play in your browser on GamesGarden, on phone or laptop. You and a rival gnome take turns lobbing flower pots across a hilly garden, minding the wind and the pond. Play 12 rivals on the Garden Trail, a bot, a friend on one screen, or a friend online.

How to play

  1. Pick a mode: Start the trail, Quick match, 2 players, or Play a friend online.
  2. On your turn, walk with the arrows or hop with Jump. The Move bar shows what is left.
  3. Pick a weapon. The Flower Pot never runs out.
  4. Drag back anywhere on the garden, like a slingshot. The further you pull, the harder you throw.
  5. Let go to fire. Drag back to where you started to cancel.
  6. Knock your rival to 0 HP, or into the pond, to win.

Rules that matter

  • One shot per turn. Move as far as your Move bar allows, then fire once.
  • A jump uses a big chunk of the Move bar. You jump the way you face. Too steep to walk? Jump.
  • Walking is safe, jumping is not. A jump can land you in the pond (you are out), and a long drop costs HP.
  • The wind changes every turn. The dotted guide ignores it.
  • The whole gnome counts. Clip your rival's head or hat and it is a direct hit.
  • Your own shots can hurt you. If one shot knocks out both gnomes, the shooter loses.
  • Sudden death from turn 16. The pond rises every turn. If both gnomes go under together, more HP wins; equal HP is a soggy draw.
  • Specials are limited. Acorn Trio, Bouncing Bean and Sapling: 2 a match. Taproot, Leaf Blower Gust and Seed Bomb: 1.

Tips and strategy

Use the near miss. A close shot tells you how far off it was. Keep the angle, nudge the power.

Fly flatter in strong wind. The longer a pot is in the air, the further the wind carries it.

Plant a Sapling. No damage, but it grows a mound: cover in front of you, or a ramp to walk up.

Save the Gust for the pond. Little damage, big shove: a rival near the water is one Gust from a swim.

Line up during their turn. Drag back while your rival thinks. Your shot waits until your turn.

Modes and levels

The Garden Trail. 12 gardens and 12 rivals, spring to winter, from Old Bert at Primrose Patch to Grand Gnome Gnorman at The Winter Show. Win a garden to open the next. Both of you carry the Flower Pot plus the weapons you have won so far.

  • Rewards: a first win gives a new weapon, a hat, or a longer aim guide.
  • Stars: one for winning, one for winning with 50 HP or more, one for winning within the garden's shot count.
  • Seeds: earned every match. They raise your gnome level (Sprout, Seedling, Gardener, Head Gardener, Garden Legend), and each level unlocks a hat.

Quick match. One match against a bot, all seven weapons, a coin flip for who starts. Choose Easy, Medium, Hard or Expert.

2 players. Share one screen and take turns. Lime, on the left, goes first.

Play a friend online. Your friend plays on their own phone or computer:

  1. Tap Play a friend online to get a 5-character room code.
  2. Tap Copy link (or Share) and send it. Your friend opens it, or types the code under Join with a code.
  3. The room maker is Lime and goes first. You take turns like 2 players.
  4. If your friend drops out, they can come back with the same link.
  5. At the end, tap Rematch. Seats swap, so the other player goes first.

Online games are just for fun and do not count for the leaderboard.
